Eggdrop

This one has languished for a bit. The lack of input had it in stasis for a little while, so it ended up becoming a little experiment with some new VST plugins I’ve obtained. It’s pretty much as done as it’ll be unless one of my musical pals chimes in with some interesting melody/solo/vocal content. Originally not conceived as being a standalone instrumental piece, but that’s what it is now. But I like it well enough if for no reason other than the mix.

Originally born from a little jamming with bass and drum machine, I played with wedging some new drum and guitar programming into the pre-existing tracks. It went well overall with an acceptable amount of hand tending/midi tweeking but I must call some bullshit on some bugginess with the software in question [hello Steinberg]. Probably the result of being mostly uncontested in the fields in which they are competing. But after working around some shortcomings, I’m pretty happy with the result. It’s better than programming the drums by hand and god knows it’s better than I can play six-string guitar.

Bass-wise I opted for the nice pingy sound of a finger picked [modeled] Richenbacher bass. I still need to research how to mix bass properly since the track when isolated has a nice rich authentic sound, but I can’t yet figure out how to achieve the same sort of tone/tambre in the mix without jacking up the volume to oppressive levels. Of course there are a couple mistakes, but re-recording gets tedious.

Oh well. This is it.
