Tunes
A small collection of things that I whipped up when I had the time, the inspiration to remix the work of someone else, or try to resurrect songs from long ago…
In roughly reverse chronological order:
– A longish sort of proggy deal I did in Reason once I finally got the hang of it. It’s big on the guitars and keyboards and other tomfoolery of such kind.
– I had just been watching the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex anime series scored by the incomparable Yoko Kanno. This techo-esque little offering bubble up as a result of that I think.
– A quick little sketch done while playing with some new Reason ReFills. Heavy on the vintage keyboards. A friend thought it sounded like an old Bryan Ferry song. High praise that.
– A first experiment using Reason 3. Sort of trippy and gothy in parts. But I overdid it playing with too many intstrument voices. But that’s how I roll.
– Somewhat organic tune born from jamming with bass over a drum machine. Added the guitar in with a plugin. Sort of fun, kind of funky for a geek.
– This seems unfinished. It’s like the introduction to…something. Perhaps my as-yet unwritten 28 part prog rock masterpiece. It’s me actually playing guitar and I can’t really play guitar. It’s all open tuning fakery. But I like the atmospheric nature of it.
– I personally like the hell out of this. It’s a remix of the opening theme for an anime series called Kino’s Journey. It’s sort of j-poppy but slicing and dicing this one was totally fun.
– Yoko Kanno (as noted above) is totally rad. So these are several of her songs from various soundtracks that I’ve rearranged and dinked with.
– And here I mean mix and not remix. Blackstrap is a bluegrass band from Bend Oregon (MySpace – Ugh) that a good friend of mine is in. We happened to collide on the phone when I was learning how to use Logic Pro and his band was in the throes of trying to self-record using GarageBand on a Mac. I ended up mixing and mastering their album for them and it was a hoot.
